The Reference feature in Placify is an enhanced way to import and store links alongside your saved places. When you come across a place online — a restaurant review, a travel blog post, a social media recommendation — the Reference feature lets you capture not just the location, but the full context of where and how you discovered it.

What references are

A reference is a link associated with a place that captures the source of your discovery. Unlike a basic link import, references are treated as first-class data in Placify. They can include:

  • The original URL where you found the place
  • Any images from the linked page
  • Descriptive text or captions
  • The date you saved the reference

References help you remember why you saved a place — was it because of a glowing review? A friend’s recommendation? A travel article that described it as a must-visit? Having that context makes your saved places much more useful when you’re planning a trip months later.

How to add a reference

  1. When you import a place from a link, Placify automatically creates a reference connecting the place to the source URL.
  2. The imported link is stored as part of the place’s data, so you can always revisit the original source.
  3. You can also manually add references to any existing place by opening the place details, tapping the reference or link section, and pasting a URL.

Where to find your references

References appear within the place details screen. When you open a saved place, any associated references are displayed alongside other information like photos, notes, and visit history. Tapping a reference opens the original link so you can revisit the source.

Why references are useful

  • Remember context. Months after saving a place, you might not remember why you saved it. The reference tells you exactly what article, post, or review caught your attention.
  • Plan better. Before visiting a place, you can revisit the original source for details like recommended dishes, best times to go, or tips from the author.
  • Share with purpose. When you share a place with friends, the reference helps them understand why it’s worth visiting.
