The best places often come from recommendations — a viral TikTok about a hidden ramen shop, an Instagram story from a friend at a stunning viewpoint, or a link someone messaged you. Placify is designed to capture these moments instantly, so you never lose track of a place you want to visit.
Using the share sheet
Placify integrates with iOS’s system-wide share sheet, making it available from almost any app. Here’s how to use it:
- When you come across a place you want to save in any app, tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow).
- In the share sheet that appears, scroll through the app icons until you find Placify.
- If you don’t see Placify, scroll to the end of the app row and tap “More” (or “Edit Actions”). Find Placify in the list, toggle it on, and optionally move it to your favorites so it appears first next time.
- Tap the Placify icon. The app will open and begin parsing the shared content.
- Placify extracts any location information, links, and media from the shared content and creates a place entry for you to review and save.
Copy-paste links
Another quick method is to copy and paste a link directly:
- In any app, copy the link to the content containing a place (a Google Maps link, a Yelp page, a social media post, etc.).
- Open Placify.
- Tap the ’+’ button and choose “Import from Link.”
- Paste the link and let Placify parse it into a place.
Tips for specific apps
- TikTok and Instagram: Use the share sheet method. Placify can extract location tags and descriptions from shared posts. Note that some content may not contain explicit location data — in those cases, you can save the link and manually set the location.
- Messages and WhatsApp: Long-press a shared location or link and tap “Share,” then select Placify from the share sheet.
- Safari and browsers: Tap the share button in the browser toolbar and choose Placify. This works great for saving restaurants from review sites, hotels from booking platforms, and attractions from travel blogs.
- Apple Maps and Google Maps: Use the share button from within the Maps app to send a location directly to Placify.
After importing
Once a place is imported, you can edit any details, add photos and notes, assign tags, and add it to a view. The imported place becomes part of your personal map just like any manually added location.
