Adding places to your personal map is the heart of using Placify. The app gives you several flexible ways to save locations, so you can capture a place no matter where you discover it. Here’s everything you need to know about adding places.

Method 1: From photos

If you have photos with location data embedded (most smartphone photos do), you can import them directly into Placify:

  1. Tap the ’+’ button on the main map view.
  2. Choose “Import from Photos.”
  3. Select one or more photos from your camera roll.
  4. Placify reads the GPS data from each photo and creates a place at that location.

This is especially useful for adding places you’ve already visited — your photo library is a ready-made travel log waiting to be mapped.

Method 2: From other apps

Placify makes it easy to save places you find while browsing other apps:

  1. In any app that supports sharing (TikTok, Instagram, Safari, Notes, Messages), tap the Share button.
  2. Look for Placify in the share sheet. If you don’t see it, scroll to the end and tap “More” to enable it.
  3. Placify will parse the shared content and create a place from it.

This is the fastest way to save a restaurant someone sent you in a message, or a travel recommendation you spotted on social media.

You can paste a link directly into Placify to extract location data:

  1. Copy a link to your clipboard from any app.
  2. Open Placify and tap the ’+’ button.
  3. Choose “Import from Link.”
  4. Paste the link, and Placify will parse it to find the associated place.

Placify works with links from Google Maps, Apple Maps, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and many other services.

Method 4: Manual entry

When a place doesn’t appear in search results or you want full control over the details, you can add it manually. See our guide on adding custom places for detailed steps.

After adding a place

Once a place is saved, you can add photos, notes, tags, and ratings to make it even more useful. You can also assign it to one or more views right away, or leave it ungrouped and organize it later.
