Sometimes the place you want to save doesn’t appear in search results. It might be a newly opened spot, a personal landmark, a friend’s house, or a location that simply isn’t indexed by map services. Placify lets you add these places manually, giving you full control over the location and details.

Adding a custom place

There are two ways to add a custom place in Placify, both equally simple:

Long-press on the map

  1. Navigate to the main map view in Placify.
  2. Find the general area where your place is located.
  3. Long-press on an empty spot on the map. A pin will drop at that location.
  4. A card will appear with options — tap “Add Custom Place.”
  5. Fill in the details: name, category, notes, and any other information you want to save.
  6. Tap “Save” to add it to your personal map.

This method is great when you know exactly where the place is visually — for example, a scenic overlook you found on a hike or a market stall at a specific street corner.

From search when no results are found

  1. Tap the ’+’ button and choose to search for a place.
  2. Type in the name or address of your place.
  3. If no matching results appear, Placify will offer the option to “Add as Custom Place.”
  4. Tap that option, then drag the pin to fine-tune the exact location on the map.
  5. Add a name, description, and any other details you’d like.
  6. Save the place to your collection.

What you can customize

When you add a custom place, you have complete control over every detail:

  • Name — whatever you want to call it
  • Location — fine-tune the pin placement on the map
  • Category or type — café, viewpoint, friend’s place, or anything else
  • Notes — any extra context or reminders
  • Photos — attach images from your camera roll
  • Tags — add your own tags to help with searching and filtering later

When to use custom places

Custom places are ideal for locations that aren’t in standard map databases, like a favorite picnic spot in a park, a street food vendor with no formal address, a relative’s home, or a meeting point for a group trip. They’re also useful when you want to mark a specific entrance, parking area, or any spot that doesn’t correspond to a named location.
