Occasionally, you may notice that the opening hours, ratings, or other information displayed for a saved place doesn’t match reality. A restaurant that shows as open on Tuesday is actually closed, or the star rating seems outdated. Here’s why this happens and what you can do about it.
Where place data comes from
Placify uses public map data sources to populate details like opening hours, ratings, and business information. This data comes from the same sources that power Apple Maps and other location services. While generally reliable, this information isn’t always perfectly up to date for every place.
Why information can be inaccurate
- Businesses change their hours but don’t always update their public listings. Seasonal hours, holiday closures, and permanent schedule changes can take time to propagate across map services.
- New businesses may have incomplete or hastily entered data that hasn’t been verified yet.
- Ratings are aggregated from multiple sources and can fluctuate or lag behind recent reviews.
- Small or independent businesses sometimes have less actively maintained online profiles than larger chains.
What you can do
For your own reference
Placify lets you add your own information to any saved place:
- Open the place details.
- Tap “Edit” to enter editing mode.
- Add a note with the correct opening hours, or any other details you want to remember.
- Your notes always take precedence — you’ll see your own notes alongside (or instead of) the public data.
This is especially useful for places you visit frequently. Add a note like “Actually closes at 9 PM on Sundays” and you’ll never be caught off guard again.
For the broader community
If you notice consistently incorrect data for a place, you can report it to the underlying map service:
- Apple Maps: Use the “Report an Issue” option within the Maps app
- Google Maps: Tap “Suggest an edit” on the business listing
While Placify doesn’t control the source data, improvements you make at the map level will eventually benefit all apps — including Placify — that use that data.
When accuracy matters most
For critical plans like dinner reservations or time-sensitive visits, we always recommend double-checking directly with the business — visit their website or give them a call. Placify is a planning tool, not a guaranteed source of real-time business information, and opening hours can change without notice.
Our commitment
We’re constantly working to improve the data quality in Placify by using the best available sources and keeping our integrations up to date. If you consistently encounter inaccurate data in a specific area or for specific types of places, let us know at team@placify.app — your reports help us identify patterns and improve.
