One of the most common questions we receive is whether Placify is available on Android. Here’s the current status and our thinking on the topic.
Current availability
Placify is currently available on iOS only. You can download it from the App Store for iPhone and iPad. There is no Android version available at this time, and Placify is not listed on the Google Play Store.
Why iOS only?
As a small team, we’ve chosen to focus our development efforts on building the best possible experience on one platform rather than spreading ourselves thin across two. iOS allows us to:
- Move faster — developing and maintaining one codebase means we ship features and improvements more frequently
- Deliver higher quality — we can polish every detail of the iOS experience without dividing our attention
- Take advantage of platform features — Placify deeply integrates with iOS technologies like the share sheet, Photos library, and Apple Maps
This focused approach has allowed us to build a genuinely polished product that our users love. Building and maintaining an Android version of the same quality would require significant additional resources.
Will Placify ever come to Android?
We haven’t ruled it out. As Placify grows, an Android version is something we’d love to build. Many of our users have friends and family on Android who they’d love to share Placify with, and we hear that feedback loud and clear.
That said, we don’t have a timeline to share. We believe in doing things well rather than doing them quickly, and an Android app would only happen when we’re confident we can deliver the same level of quality and attention to detail that iOS users enjoy today.
What Android users can do in the meantime
- If you have access to an iPad, Placify works great on iPadOS and can be a companion tool for trip planning.
- Places and routes shared from Placify can be viewed on any device via a web link — including Android phones. While you can’t save or organize places without the iOS app, you can at least view recommendations from friends who use Placify.
- If you’d like to see an Android version, let us know through our feedback channel. User demand is the strongest signal we have for prioritizing platform expansion.
