Placify uses your photos to build a rich picture of where you’ve been and when. Each photo carries embedded location and date information, which contributes to your place statistics and visit history. What happens when you move a photo from one place to another? The answer is that your statistics update intelligently to stay accurate.
How photo movement affects statistics
Yes, moving photos affects your place statistics, but in a way that makes your data more accurate. Here’s exactly what happens:
Visit records update automatically
When you move a photo from Place A to Place B, Placify removes that photo’s visit record from Place A and adds it to Place B. Your visit count for Place A decreases by one (for that particular date), and Place B’s visit count increases accordingly. This ensures your visit history always reflects where your photos were actually taken.
A more accurate map
In fact, placing photos at more accurate locations helps make your entire visit history more precise. If a photo was originally assigned to the wrong place — perhaps because the GPS data was slightly off or you bulk-imported photos without checking — moving it to the correct location makes your timeline and Memory View more reliable.
What doesn’t change
- The photo itself is untouched. Its original capture date, resolution, and all metadata remain intact.
- Your total number of saved photos across all places stays the same — you’re just reorganizing where they belong.
- Any notes or tags you added to the photo remain attached to it, even after it moves.
When to move photos
Consider moving photos when:
- A photo was automatically assigned to the wrong place during import, and you want it attributed to the correct location.
- You’re cleaning up your collection and want photos attached to the most specific location possible.
- GPS data was slightly inaccurate, placing a photo at a neighboring business instead of the one you actually visited.
A note on manual organization
While Placify does its best to automatically assign photos to the right places, we encourage you to review and reorganize when needed. A well-organized collection of photos leads to a richer Memory View and a more meaningful personal map over time.
