Merging places is a powerful way to clean up duplicates and consolidate your collection. However, it’s a permanent action — here’s what you need to know before you merge.
Can I undo a merge?
Currently, you cannot undo a place merge in Placify. Once two or more places have been combined into one, the operation is permanent. This is an intentional design decision driven by the complexity of reliably separating merged data back into its original components.
We understand this is a feature some users want, and our team is exploring ways to make merges reversible in a future update. If this is important to you, we’d love to hear your feedback — it helps us prioritize what to build next.
How to merge safely
Since merges can’t be undone, we recommend a few precautions:
- Use the preview screen carefully. Before confirming a merge, Placify shows you a detailed preview of what the combined place will look like. Review it thoroughly to make sure you’re happy with the result.
- Double-check your selections. Make sure you’ve only selected the places you truly want to combine. If you accidentally select an extra place, tap it again to deselect.
- When in doubt, don’t merge. If you’re unsure whether two places should be combined, it’s better to keep them separate. You can always merge them later once you’re certain.
What to do if you merge the wrong places
If you accidentally merge places that shouldn’t have been combined, here are your options:
- Manually recreate the lost place. You can add a new place at the original location and re-attach any photos from your camera roll. While this isn’t ideal, your photos remain in your library even after they’re attached to a merged place.
- Contact support. If a merge has caused a significant issue with your collection, reach out to us at team@placify.app. While we can’t currently reverse merges, we’re happy to help with workarounds.
Future improvements
We’re actively considering an undo feature for merges, as well as improved confirmations and safeguards. If you have thoughts on how this should work, please share them through our feedback channel.
